A collection of highlighted student builds from Studio’s Creative Engineering class with Mark Rober.

As you consider different ideas for your build, it's important to think about how achievable each one is given the time, materials, and engineering experience you have. You'll only have a couple of weeks to complete your build, so try to pick something that is exciting but also realistic! Working within constraints like your budget, timeline, and experience is a critical engineering skill you'll practice throughout the class.

We’ve collected some examples from previous classes to give you an idea of what students at different experience levels (Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced) have been able to do for this build. You can use these to spark your own creativity and help you select an idea that's at about the right level. But make sure to do your own brainstorming to find a story-motivated build idea that's meaningful to you. If you choose something similar to the ideas below, make sure to adjust the build to align with your own story and vision.

The submissions in this library are the final project submissions for these builds, so these students had already gone through the research, prototyping, and final build stages. We’re showing you their final builds to give you an idea of what to aim for, but, for now, all you need to do is brainstorm an idea.

Remember, even a simple idea can lead to a great build!
